Why send a presentation as a PDF
A PowerPoint file depends on the software that opens it: a missing font, a different version of PowerPoint, or opening it in Keynote or Google Slides, and suddenly a title wraps onto two lines or an image shifts. A PDF locks every slide exactly as you saw it. It opens on any computer, tablet or phone without presentation software, and it's often lighter to send by email. It's the format expected when you upload a class presentation to a school portal, share slides after a meeting or print handouts. Keep the .pptx to edit your presentation, and share the PDF.
Hidden slides, notes and slide order
The tool follows the order set in the presentation, even if slides have been moved around many times. Hidden slides are not exported, just like in PowerPoint; check “Include hidden slides” to add them. The “Notes pages” option produces one portrait page per slide: the slide image at the top and your speaker notes underneath, as selectable text. If the notes are long, their text size shrinks to fit the page. It's handy for rehearsing a talk, reviewing a presentation on paper or giving your audience a detailed handout.
Supported formats and rendering limits
The tool reads .pptx presentations, the PowerPoint format since 2007, as well as .ppsx slide shows and .potx templates. An old .ppt file, a LibreOffice .odp presentation or a Keynote file must first be saved as .pptx, from PowerPoint, LibreOffice Impress, Keynote or Google Slides. Rendering is accurate for everyday content: text, bullet lists, images, shapes and tables. Animations and transitions are not kept, since a PDF is static, and videos don't appear. Charts, SmartArt and advanced effects may look slightly different: check the preview before downloading.
