Editable text or faithful image: which mode should you pick?
“Editable text” is the one to use when you want to fix, translate or reuse the content: every block of text in the PDF becomes a PowerPoint text box in the same spot, and the rest of the page (shapes, photos, colored backgrounds, drawn tables) becomes the background image. If a font used in the PDF isn't installed on your computer, PowerPoint swaps in a similar one, so a line may end up slightly longer or shorter. “Faithful image” keeps every page exactly as it looks in the PDF: the right choice for presenting a document as is, marking it up or adding your own slides. The text of each page is then copied into the speaker notes, so you can still find or copy it easily.
How the text is removed from the background image
Many converters simply lay text boxes over a picture of the page: the text shows up twice, and editing it leaves the old version visible underneath. Here, each page is rendered twice: once in full, and once skipping only the instructions that draw text. That second render becomes the background, without a single letter on it. Comparing the two also gives the exact color of each piece of text and spots invisible text: in a scanned PDF that went through character recognition, the hidden text layer is not recreated on top of the scan. For a scan with no text at all, run it through the OCR tool first, then convert the result.
Slide size and pages of different sizes
A PowerPoint presentation has only one slide size. The tool uses the size shared by most of the pages you selected: a PDF exported from PowerPoint in 16:9 gives 16:9 slides of 13.33 × 7.5 inches (33.9 × 19.1 cm), and an A4 document gives portrait A4 slides. Pages with another size are scaled down and centered on a white background, never stretched. For a very long PDF, convert it in several passes, for example pages 1 to 50 and then 51 to 100: processing stays fast and the presentation stays lighter. The tool accepts up to 300 pages per conversion.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to PowerPoint?
Yes, but a scan only contains images, so “Editable text” mode creates no text boxes. Run the PDF through the OCR tool first to add a text layer, or use “Faithful image” mode.
The PDF is password protected. What can I do?
A PDF that asks for a password when you open it can't be read. If you know the password, remove the protection first with the “Unlock PDF” tool, then convert the unlocked file.
