100% private — Everything is processed directly in your browser: your files, voice, and image are never sent to Chatzam's servers.

How do you convert an EPUB to PDF?

  1. Drop the EPUB book

Drag the .epub file into the box or pick it on your device. It's opened in your browser: nothing is uploaded to the internet.

  2. Adjust the layout

Choose the page size (A5 like a paperback, A4 or Letter), the text size, the margins and, if needed, a table of contents at the start. The preview follows your settings.

  3. Save as PDF

Tap "Save as PDF", then choose "Save as PDF" as the printer in the window that opens, and confirm.

A real book in PDF, not a screenshot

Sharp, selectable text

The PDF contains real text: it stays sharp at any zoom level and can be copied and searched, in every writing system (accents, Arabic, Chinese…).

Chapters, images and styles

Each chapter starts on a new page, with the images, headings, italics and formatting chosen by the publisher.

Your choice of size

A5 for comfortable on-screen reading, Letter or A4 for printing; four text sizes and three margin widths.

Table of contents

Add a table of contents at the start of the PDF, built from the book's own; in Chrome and Edge, each title links to the right chapter.

Convert an EPUB book to PDF, with no software or sign-up

EPUB is the format of ebooks sold by Kobo, Google Play Books, Apple Books or Barnes & Noble, and of free public-domain books from Project Gutenberg or Standard Ebooks. Its text adapts to the screen, but it doesn't open everywhere: a PDF, on the other hand, opens on any computer, tablet or phone, prints easily and keeps the same layout for everyone. This tool does the conversion right in your browser, on a PC, Mac, Chromebook or Linux, without installing software like Calibre and without creating an account. The file isn't sent to any server: it is opened, laid out and saved on your device, which matters for a book you bought or a personal document.

Which size should you choose: A5, A4 or Letter?

A5 (5.8 × 8.3 in) is close to a paperback: lines are short and easy to follow, ideal for reading the PDF on a tablet, an e-reader that opens PDFs or a computer. Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is the standard paper size for printing in the United States and Canada; A4 is its equivalent in Europe and most other countries. Then set the text size, from Small to Extra large, for example Large for a reader who struggles with small print, and narrow margins to save paper or wide ones to take notes. Each chapter starts on a new page, images are never split in two, and the preview shows the result before you save.

DRM-protected books: why they can't be converted

Many ebooks bought from online stores, as well as library ebooks borrowed through apps like Libby, are locked with DRM (Adobe, Readium LCP, Apple), a protection that encrypts the text so it only opens in authorized apps. The tool detects these books and tells you clearly; it doesn't bypass protections, which would be illegal in most countries anyway. DRM-free EPUBs, on the other hand, convert without any trouble: public-domain books (Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks), books sold "DRM-free" or with just a digital watermark, and documents you created yourself. Kindle books (.azw, .azw3, .mobi, .kfx) aren't EPUBs and aren't supported.

Get a great conversion: images, fonts and comics

The conversion keeps the book's styles: headings, italics, indents, images and notes. Some fonts embedded by the publisher are scrambled so that only e-readers can use them: they're then replaced by a standard font, with no effect on the text. Fixed-layout books, such as comics or picture books, are designed for a specific screen: their conversion may not be perfect. If your browser doesn't print background colors, check "Background graphics" in the print window. Finally, a heavily illustrated book makes a large PDF: run it through "Compress PDF" afterwards to shrink it before sending it by email.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an EPUB to PDF for free?

Drop the .epub file on this page, choose the page size and text size, then tap "Save as PDF" and choose "Save as PDF" in the print window. It's free, with no sign-up.

Is my book uploaded to the internet?

No. The book is opened and laid out in your browser, then saved as a PDF on your device. No file is sent to our servers.

Why is my EPUB rejected?

Either it's protected by DRM (the store's digital lock), which the tool doesn't bypass, or the file is damaged or isn't a real EPUB. Kindle books (.azw, .mobi, .kfx) aren't supported.

Is the text in the PDF selectable?

Yes. The PDF contains real text, sharp at any zoom: you can copy it, search it and have it read aloud, in any language.

Which size should I choose to read the PDF on a tablet?

A5, close to a paperback: short lines are comfortable to read on a tablet or a small screen. Keep Letter or A4 for printing on regular paper.

Are the book's images and formatting kept?

Yes: the images, headings, italics and publisher's styles are kept, and each chapter starts on a new page. Only protected fonts are replaced by standard fonts.
