Increase the Volume of a Video

Set the volume from 0 to 400% and hear it right away, or let "Normalize" bring the sound to a comfortable level. The picture isn't re-encoded, and the tool also takes MP3, M4A and WAV files.

How do you make a video louder?

  1. Add the video or audio

Drag a video (MP4, MOV, WebM…) or an audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV…) into the box, or select it on your device.

  2. Set the volume by ear

Move the slider or tap 150%, 200%, 300% or 400%, then press play: the player already plays at the volume you chose. Or tap "Normalize" for an automatic level.

  3. Download the result

Start processing: only the sound is recalculated. A video comes out as an MP4 with the original picture; an MP3, M4A or WAV keeps its format.

Louder sound, without crackling

From 0 to 400%

A slider and shortcuts to boost the sound up to 4 times (+12 dB), or turn it down instead.

Preview at the right volume

The player plays at the chosen volume, even above 100%, so you can adjust by ear before exporting.

Automatic normalization

"Normalize" brings the sound to a standard level and evens out quiet and loud parts, without clipping.

Picture untouched, no upload

The picture is copied without re-encoding, so there's no quality loss and it's fast. Everything happens in your browser.

Video too quiet? How to boost the audio

A video filmed from far away, a phone mic inside a pocket, a screen recording or a badly set export often gives you sound that's too low: you turn the volume all the way up and it's still not enough. Boosting the audio means multiplying its level: 200% doubles the amplitude (+6 dB), 400% quadruples it (+12 dB). Above 100%, parts that are already loud could go past the maximum and crackle; a limiter holds them just below it while the quiet parts come up. So adjust by ear in the player, which already plays at the volume you chose. One last thing: boosting a sound also raises the background noise, so a faint hiss becomes audible at 400%.

Increase the volume or normalize: which one?

The slider applies the same boost everywhere: handy when the whole recording is evenly too quiet, like a class video or a recorded meeting. The "Normalize" button analyzes the sound and brings it to a standard level of about −16 LUFS, close to what video and podcast platforms use. It lifts the quiet parts and tames the loudest ones: that's the right choice when the level keeps changing (a voice sometimes close to the mic, sometimes far away) or when you don't know which percentage to pick. Either way, only the audio track is recalculated.

Make a quiet MP3, M4A or WAV louder

The tool isn't just for videos: a voice memo, a podcast, a recorded lecture or a song that's too quiet can be boosted the same way. The file keeps its format: an MP3 stays an MP3 (192 kbps), an M4A stays an M4A, a WAV stays a WAV. Other audio formats (OGG, OPUS, FLAC…) come out as MP3, which plays everywhere. For a very long recording, first keep only the part you need with "MP3 Cutter".

No picture re-encoding: fast and lossless

For a video, the picture is copied as is into an MP4 file: no quality loss, and processing takes a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the length, much less than a full re-encode. Only a few older formats (WMV, some WebM files…) can't be copied into MP4: their picture is then automatically converted to H.264, which takes longer. Everything runs in your browser, on a computer, iPhone or Android, with no app and no sign-up, and your file is never uploaded. To mute a video or strip its sound entirely, use "Remove Audio From Video"; to add a soundtrack, use "Add Music to Video".

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I increase the volume of a video?

Add the video, move the slider (to 200%, for example) while listening in the player, then start processing. You get an MP4 with the original picture and louder sound.

How much can I boost the sound without it crackling?

Up to 400% here. A limiter stops loud parts from going past the maximum, which avoids the crackling typical of clipping. If the sound feels squashed, go back down to 200% or try "Normalize".

What does the "Normalize" button do?

It brings the sound to a standard level (about −16 LUFS) by lifting the quiet parts and taming the loud ones. It's the easiest option when you don't know how much to raise the volume.

Can I make an MP3 louder?

Yes. Drop in your MP3, M4A or WAV file: it's boosted and saved in the same format. Other audio formats are converted to MP3.

The tool says my video has no sound. Why?

The file has no audio track at all, so there's nothing to boost. That happens with some screen recordings or videos exported without sound. You can give it a soundtrack with "Add Music to Video".

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Processing runs in your browser with FFmpeg; only the engine is downloaded, once. It's free and there's no sign-up.
