Your image is sent for analysis — To be described, your image is shrunk in your browser and then sent to our server, which has the AI analyze it. It is used only to produce the result and is not kept. Avoid confidential images.

How do you turn an image into a prompt?

  1. Drop in your image

Drag an image into the box, pick one from your files or paste it with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or an iPhone HEIC: it is shrunk automatically before the analysis.

  2. Choose the result

The prompt shows first. Switch between tabs to get the detailed description, the alt text or the keywords; each one is only requested when you open it.

  3. Copy or regenerate

Copy the text in one click. Not quite right? Regenerate it, or change the output language for the description, alt text and keywords.

Four different texts from a single image

Prompt for AI images

A single line, in English, describing the subject, style, lighting, framing and colors, plus the camera when it's a photo. Paste it into your AI image generator to get a similar image.

Ready-to-paste alt text

A short sentence (125 characters at most) for the alt attribute of your images: useful for accessibility and for the search ranking of your pages.

Description and keywords

A detailed description of what the image shows, and 15 to 25 keywords separated by commas, for your captions, product pages or sorting your photo library.

In your language

The description, alt text and keywords can be written in any of the site's 15 languages. Results you already have stay on screen when you switch tabs or languages.

Image to prompt: find the prompt behind an image

Have an image you like, an illustration, a photo or something made with AI, and want to get a similar one? The easiest way is to start from a good prompt. Our image to prompt tool analyzes what it sees and writes a one-line description in English, the way AI image generators like it: the subject, the action, the setting, the art style, the lighting, the framing, the color palette and, for a photo, the type of camera and lens. It can't recover the exact text that was used to create the image, which is impossible, but it gives you a solid starting prompt that you can then edit.

Describe an image with AI: detailed description

To describe an image with AI, switch to the “Detailed description” tab. You get a written text explaining what can be seen: the people, objects, colors, mood, background and any readable text. It's handy for captioning a photo, writing a product page, preparing a post, sorting a photo library or understanding an image whose origin you don't know. The description is written in the page's language by default, and you can choose another among the 15 languages offered.

Generate alt text for your images

Alt text, or the alt attribute, describes an image for people who use a screen reader and for search engines. Good alt text is short, precise and free of phrases like “image of”. The “Alt text” tab gives you one of 125 characters at most, ready to paste into your CMS, your online store or your HTML code. Always read it over: you know the context of the page better than any AI, and a brand or place name added by hand often improves the result.

Image keywords and privacy

The “Keywords” tab lists 15 to 25 keywords separated by commas, useful for tagging a stock photo library, filling in a photo's metadata or choosing hashtags. To work, the tool sends your image, shrunk to 1,024 pixels at most, to our analysis server. It is used only to produce the result and is not kept. So avoid dropping in confidential images or ones that contain personal data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I find the exact prompt of an AI-generated image?

No, the original text isn't stored in the image. The tool analyzes what it sees and writes an equivalent prompt, which usually produces similar images. You can then adjust it to your taste.

Why is the prompt in English?

AI image generators understand English best and give better results with what you write in that language. The description, alt text and keywords, on the other hand, are written in the language of your choice.

Is my image kept?

No. It is shrunk in your browser, sent to our server for the time of the analysis, and then it is not kept. Don't drop in confidential images.

Which image formats are accepted?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC (iPhone photos). The image is reduced to 1,024 pixels on its longest side before sending, which is enough for the analysis and makes it faster.

How long should alt text be?

Aim for 125 characters at most: that's the length most screen readers read without cutting off. The tool respects this limit, and the counter under the text reminds you of it.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it's free and needs no sign-up. If the service is very busy, the tool waits a few seconds and then tries again on its own.
