How do you check a text for mistakes online?
-
Paste your text
An email, an assignment, a cover letter, a message: copy it into the box (8,000 characters at most, about 1,300 words).
-
Choose the correction level
“Fix mistakes” corrects errors only, without touching your style. “Fix and improve” also smooths out clumsy wording and repetition. Then click “Check text”.
-
Review and copy
Deleted words are struck through and added words are highlighted in green. The list of corrections explains each rule; tap one to find it in the text. Then copy the clean text or download it as a TXT file.
Fix your mistakes and understand why
Every mistake, not just spelling
Spelling, grammar, verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, commonly confused words like its/it's, their/there/they're or affect/effect, punctuation, capitalization: the whole text is reread with the meaning of each sentence in mind.
Corrections visible in the text
Each change appears in place: the old word struck through, the new one highlighted. A button switches between the corrections view and the clean text, ready to copy.
The rule explained for each mistake
For every correction: before, after, the type of mistake and the rule in one sentence. Enough to avoid making the same error next time.
Your style stays yours
In “Fix mistakes” mode only real errors are changed: your wording, your vocabulary and your voice are left alone. Switch to “Fix and improve” only when you want a lighter, tighter text.
A grammar checker that explains its corrections
This online grammar checker rereads your text the way a professional proofreader would: it takes the meaning of the sentence into account, not just each word on its own. It fixes spelling and typing errors, grammar, verb forms, subject-verb agreement, commonly confused words, punctuation and capitalization. “Fix mistakes” mode changes nothing else: your style, your vocabulary and your turns of phrase stay yours. “Fix and improve” mode goes a little further and trims repetition, awkward sentences and wordiness, without changing the meaning or the length. In both modes, every correction is listed with a short explanation: it is a spell and grammar checker that also helps you learn.
The most common mistakes in English
Some errors come up again and again, and the checker spots them from context. Look-alike words: “its” (possessive) and “it's” (it is or it has); “their” (belonging to them), “there” (a place) and “they're” (they are); “your” and “you're”; “affect” (a verb, to influence) and “effect” (usually a noun, a result). Then there are “then” and “than”, “to”, “too” and “two”, and “lose” and “loose”. Other classics: subject-verb agreement when the subject is far from the verb (“the list of items are” should be “is”), “fewer” and “less”, “who” and “whom”, a missing apostrophe in possessives, comma splices and misplaced commas. For each one, the explanation reminds you of the rule and a trick for checking it.
Punctuation and capitalization, too
A text can be spelled perfectly and still read badly because of its punctuation. The checker looks at commas around clauses and after introductory phrases, apostrophes in contractions and possessives, run-on sentences, missing full stops and capital letters at the start of sentences and on proper nouns. Each fix is shown in the text, so you see exactly what was changed, even for a single comma. The copied text keeps your formatting of paragraphs, so it pastes cleanly into Word, Google Docs, an email or a website. Always read the result over, especially for names and technical terms.
How is it different from the spell check in Word or on your phone?
The checker built into Word, Outlook or your phone keyboard mostly verifies words one by one plus a few simple rules: it lets many mistakes through, because “there” and “their” are both real words. Here, the whole sentence is analyzed by the AI, which makes it possible to catch “their going to the store” or “he don't know”. Another difference: you do not just get a red underline, you get the correction and the rule. The tool is handy for an essay, a cover letter, an important email or a post. It remains an aid: always read the result, especially for proper nouns and specialized vocabulary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the grammar checker free?
Yes, it is free and needs no sign-up. Paste your text, choose the correction level and click “Check text”: the result arrives in a few seconds.
Will the checker change my style?
Not in “Fix mistakes” mode: only real errors are corrected and your wording stays intact. “Fix and improve” mode also touches up clumsy wording, repetition and wordiness, while keeping the meaning and length of the text.
Why does a correction seem to change nothing?
It is often a tiny fix such as an extra space, a curly apostrophe or a comma. It is hard to see on screen, which is why the corrections view marks every change in color.
What is the maximum text length?
8,000 characters, about 1,300 words or three pages. For a longer document, check it in several parts.
Does the checker work in other languages?
Yes. The text is checked in its own language (Spanish, French, German…) without being translated, and the explanations of the rules appear in the language of the page.
Can the checker be wrong?
Yes, it is rare but possible, particularly with proper nouns, technical terms or an ambiguous sentence. Read the explanations: if a correction does not look right to you, you are free not to keep it.
