How to display a white screen

Choose your light
Pure white by default, or another color, a brightness level and a warmer or cooler tone. The presets do the work for you.

Go full screen
Click "Turn on screen": the color fills the whole screen, the cursor disappears and the screen doesn't go to sleep.

Press Esc, click the mouse or double-tap with your finger. The timer can also turn the light off on its own.
More than a blank page

Set the color temperature from 2,700 K (orange candlelight) to 9,500 K (bluish), and the brightness from 5 to 100%.

Lighting your face for video calls or selfies
In a dark room or with a window behind you, the webcam boosts its sensitivity and the picture turns gray and grainy. A white screen, or better yet a second monitor, a tablet or a phone placed behind your computer, works as a soft fill light. Ring light mode imitates a real ring light: the light comes from the edges and the center stays black, which is less dazzling and gives a round catchlight in the eyes. A color temperature around 4,500 to 5,000 K gives natural skin tones; lower, the look becomes warmer, higher, it leans blue. Turn your device's brightness all the way up: the page can't go beyond it.
Tracing a drawing, cleaning the screen, checking pixels
Laid flat at maximum brightness, a tablet showing a full white screen becomes a makeshift light box: place the original, then a thin sheet of paper on top, and trace the lines with a pencil without pressing hard on the display. To clean a screen, alternate between black and white: on black, fingerprints and dust shine under the room light; on white, larger specks show up as shadows. Finally, a white background reveals dead pixels, which stay black; for a full color-by-color check, use our Dead Pixel Test, which cycles through the primary colors in full screen.
A soft night light, with no flashing
The "Night light" preset shows a very warm light at 35% brightness and turns off after 30 minutes: handy for reading a bedtime story, getting up at night or comforting a child falling asleep. Warm tones contain less blue, the color that most disrupts falling asleep; turn down your device's brightness too. The tool only shows steady colors: no flashing or strobe effects, which we deliberately left out for people with photosensitive epilepsy. A computer screen left on uses electricity, and on an OLED screen a static image left for hours can cause burn-in: use the timer rather than leaving it on all night.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make my screen completely white?
Click "Turn on screen": the page switches to a pure white full screen. Press Esc, click or double-tap the screen to go back.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. Safari on iPhone doesn't allow true full screen for web pages, but the light covers the whole window. For the best result, add the page to your Home Screen or hide the toolbars by scrolling.
Will the screen go to sleep?
Not on most recent browsers: the tool asks to keep the screen on as long as the light is displayed. If your browser doesn't allow it, increase the sleep or Auto-Lock delay in your device settings.
Can I use it as a ring light?
Yes, that's the "Ring light" mode: an adjustable white frame around the screen with a black center. It gives off less light than a real lamp. Ideally, display it on a second monitor, a tablet or a phone placed in front of you, since full screen covers your video call window.
Why isn't the screen any brighter?
The page shows the brightest white possible, but it can't exceed the brightness set on your device. Turn it all the way up and switch off auto-brightness or power saving mode.
