Sentence case or Title Case?
Sentence case capitalizes only the first word of each sentence and proper nouns: “The best places to visit in New York”. Title Case capitalizes words in a headline: “The Best Places to Visit in New York”. Style guides such as AP and Chicago keep short words like “a”, “the”, “to” or “in” lowercase in titles, except at the start. The Title Case button here capitalizes every word, which is perfect for a list of names, cities or products, such as turning “john smith” into “John Smith”; for a headline, lowercase the short words afterwards if your style guide requires it. Sentence case also rescues text written in all caps: each sentence starts with a capital and the rest goes lowercase.
Fixing text typed with Caps Lock on, and other tricks
Typed a whole paragraph with Caps Lock on? Paste it and choose Sentence case: each sentence gets its capital back. Then check proper nouns, acronyms and the pronoun “I”, which the tool can't guess: “NASA” and “London” will become “nasa” and “london” in the middle of a sentence. If you typed “hELLO wORLD” by accident, the invert option gives you “Hello World” directly. The tool also removes accents when a system won't accept them, turning “José”, “café” or “naïve” into “Jose”, “cafe” and “naive” for a file name, a username or an old online form. And with alternating case, “no way” becomes “nO wAy”, the tone of the famous mocking meme.
camelCase, snake_case, kebab-case: which format to choose?
These formats let you write several words without spaces, where spaces aren't allowed. With “last name”, camelCase gives “lastName”: words joined together, with a capital from the second word on, a common convention in JavaScript and Java. snake_case gives “last_name”, with underscores, widely used in Python and for database column names. kebab-case gives “last-name”, with hyphens: it's the format of web page URLs, CSS classes and many file names.
